There is little doubt in my mind that cows have the same varying personalities as the human race. Take for instance the smallest cow we have in our herd, eight out of ten times when you walk through the pasture she’ll act as if you’re not there, and always wait until you’ve let your guard down just enough so she can get in behind you and wait to nail you when you aren’t looking. Sound like any folks you know? She’ll never confront you head on, because she knows we’ll stand our ground, and she’ll take a fast foot to the nose. Nope she’s just sneaky and dangerous. Disposition does matter in cows and people.

Back to the topic of people, I want to take a moment to publicly thank James Fisher, who until this past August, was one of the best Junior Leaders the American Angus Association could ask for. I can’t remember an instance when James didn’t remember any of the juniors names from all over the United States, he provided years of treasured memories for many kids. I wish the best of luck to whom ever the association finds to replace him, because those are going to be very big shoes to fill. Once again, thank you James for always giving it your heart and soul everyday you were on the job.

Some how some way I feel that it’s important to bring up the genetic defect situation the breed has found itself facing, but for the life of me I really can’t think of anything that first off hasn’t been said, anything that could possibly make a bad situation better, or any way to spin this out that we all might see some hope at the end of the road, so with that said it behooves me to sit this one out, and refrain from opinion or comment. On the other hand congratulations to the Association for hosting one of the best foundation fundraisers ever in it’s history.

I think we can all take heart in the fact that with so much collapsing around us that the bull sales have held up much better then most folks were expecting, it might be tougher to unload a lot of numbers, but the good bulls are still commanding solid prices.

There is a great deal happening in the world, the U.S. and even in our breed at the moment. At times it all becomes pretty incomprehensible. To shed a small ray of light on it all, remember to take each day as it comes, don’t allow yourself to take the doomsday route, and always remember as in cows and people disposition matters….Until Next Month
